A flying saucer steel ball is a high-polished steel ball formed and ground into a flattened saucer profile: a thin centre with a defined, working rim. In the metal-finishing industry the same product is sold as a UFO ball, satellite ball, saucer media or butterfly ball. Because the rim concentrates pressure on a narrow contact line, saucer media reach into recesses, cross-holes, slots and thread roots that round balls roll straight past. We make them on our own forming, heat-treatment and polishing lines in kaifeng,China and ship them by the kilogram - no trading-company margin in the price.

Material choice, not quality choice. Carbon steel gives the lowest cost per kilogram; 201 stainless is the low-cost corrosion-resistant option. Density (7.8 g/cm³) and grade (G100–G1000) stay the same, so a cheaper material does not mean a softer or shorter-lived media in the right application.
